Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment for depression is an FDA-approved procedure that stimulates areas of the brain that affect mood. This therapy uses magnetic pulses to reset the natural rhythms of your brain and improve communication between its different parts.
WellStead Mental Health offers Brainsway Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy in Florida.
Antidepressants can work differently from person to person based on factors like genetics, metabolism, and neural circuitry. For some people, the body may process the medication in a way that affects how well it works or if side effects occur. These differences can make it challenging to determine the right medication, dose, or treatment method.
Treatment-resistant depression is a recognized medical condition that requires a specialized approach, which is where deep TMS therapy comes in.
Traditional TMS coils generally stimulate more targeted and superficial areas. At WellStead Mental Health, we use state-of-the-art Brainsway H1 coils. These coils are designed to stimulate deeper and broader areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.
The entire procedure is painless and noninvasive. It takes about 20 minutes, and you’ll be seated in a chair, given earplugs and a helmet, and then a device like a salon hair dryer will be placed on your head where it will generate brief magnetic pulses. A TMS-certified provider will always be in the room with you.
Your care team will walk you through each step of the TMS process, from your initial evaluation to your follow-up treatment. Here’s what you can expect:
We’ll take a look at your medical history, current symptoms, and any other treatments you’ve had as part of our evaluation to see if TMS therapy is for you.
We’ll do a brief procedure to find the best position and power level for your treatment. This is also known as a mapping session.
We conduct five sessions per week, for six weeks, then we’ll follow a short taper schedule. You will have a total of 30 to 36 sessions.
We monitor and assess your progress during the treatment period, adjusting parameters as needed.
We’ll evaluate your treatment response after the course is complete and develop a plan for maintenance, as some patients may benefit from occasional sessions after the course.
We are also partnered with a range of insurance providers so we can offer accessible, affordable care.
This treatment has broad FDA clearance, meaning it can successfully treat several conditions, including:
We’ll target the specific neural circuits responsible for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors to quiet your mind and reduce severe symptoms when standard therapy falls short.
We find that major depression is often accompanied by debilitating anxiety. TMS is cleared to address comorbid anxiety by calming hyperactive anxiety pathways, while simultaneously stimulating underactive mood centers.
Additionally, there is ongoing research exploring the benefits of TMS therapy for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, degenerative brain diseases, and bipolar depression.
At WellStead Mental Health, our mission is to ensure psychiatric care is both accessible and affordable. By partnering with a diverse range of insurance providers, we strive to offer smooth, hassle-free coverage for every patient.
