At WellStead Mental Health, we’re proud to offer Brainsway Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS) therapy, an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions.
Brainsway Deep TMS therapy represents a significant advancement in the treatment of depression, especially for those who haven’t experienced adequate relief from antidepressant medications or cannot tolerate their negative side effects.
For over 11 years, our offices have successfully utilized TMS, achieving consistently rewarding outcomes—particularly in patients with treatment-resistant depression.
Each session has up to a 20-minute duration and zero downtime, allowing seamless addition into your daily routine.
TMS therapy is FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and Smoking Cessation. It also has FDA-clearance for anxious-depression and other emerging conditions.
Brainsway TMS therapy uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain that regulate mood. These pulses generate small electrical currents that activate brain cells in the targeted region, helping to reset the brain’s natural rhythms and improve communication between different areas of the brain.
During each TMS session, you’ll be seated comfortably in a chair, provided with a pair of earplugs, and then a helmet, like a salon hair dryer, will be gently placed on your head. This helmet contains a specifically designed magnetic coil that generates brief magnetic pulses at an intensity similar to that used in MRIs. Throughout the maximum 20-minute duration, you will remain fully awake, and a TMS-certified provider will always be present in the treatment room with you.
Unlike electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), TMS does not induce seizures or require anesthesia, and it also does not cause memory or cognition side effects that may occur with ECT.
After your treatment, you can immediately return to your daily activities, including driving.
Here’s what you can expect during your TMS journey:
We perform an evaluation to determine if TMS therapy is appropriate for you. We’ll review your medical history, previous treatments, and current symptoms.
Also called the ‘mapping session’, we’ll conduct a brief procedure to locate the optimal position and power level for your treatment course.
A typical TMS course consists of 5 sessions per week over 6 weeks, followed by a brief taper schedule, for a total of 30-36 sessions. Each session will last up to a maximum of 20 minutes.
Throughout your treatment, we’ll regularly assess your progress and adjust treatment parameters if needed. Many patients begin to notice subtle improvements within 3-4 weeks of improvement.
After completing the full course of treatment, we’ll evaluate your response and develop a plan for maintaining improvement. Some patients may benefit from occasional maintenance sessions.

Ongoing research is exploring the potential benefits of TMS for other conditions, including:
Studies have shown Brainsway’s treatment to be effective for patients with depression, regardless of how many medications were tried in the current episode of depression.
In a large-scale multi-center study with 230 patients who had not improved from antidepressants, Deep TMS was shown to be effective, leading to its FDA clearance for treatment-resistant depression.
Yes. Brainsway’s Deep TMS has been tested in over 60 clinical studies for different brain conditions in leading institutions around the world. The FDA has cleared this system for clinical use, and it’s currently available in the U.S., Europe, and South America.
*Key studies include research published in Psychiatry (2015; Vol.14, 64-73)1, an 18-week continuation safety and feasibility study (World J Biol Psychiatry 2014;15(4):298-306)2, and research on treatment-resistant major depression (World J Biol Psychiatry. 2014;15(7):570-578)3.
The treatment should not be used if you have metal implants in or around the head (excluding standard amalgam dental fillings). During your consultation, we’ll complete a thorough screening to determine if there are any contraindications for your situation.
